The New SIBU Sea Berry Therapy & T7

SeaBerry Natural Skin Care

It’s important to know where your dollars are going.

Wouldn’t it be great to know that part of every purchase you made went to helping others in need?

Imagine if every time you swiped your credit card, you knew a piece of that was going to someone, somewhere, or something to help make our world a better place.

While we can’t guarantee that a piece of your next grocery bill will go toward a charity or make a positive world contribution, we can make that guarantee when you purchase SIBU products. More on that in just a moment.

SIBU Sea Berry Therapy

SIBU is great for all skin types, but the biggest and most profound benefits come to those suffering with problematic skin; the symptoms of rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and acne.

SIBU provides the ultimate natural skin therapy to help diminish and even eliminate these all too common skin conditions.

What is T7?

SIBU Sea Berry Therapy and T7 include our full commitment to not only bringing you the highest quality sea berry skin care products, but also our commitment to making a positive impact for our planet and the people who live on it.

Part of every SIBU purchase you make goes to the co-ops of Himalayan women hired by SIBU, following fair trade practices, to gently hand-harvest the berries in the traditions of their ancestors (pictured below. beautiful aren’t they?).

These women are able to earn enough during the 4-6 week harvest to support their families through the harsh Himalayan winter.

More on T7:

  • T7 is SIBU’s proprietary process for bringing you the highest quality Sea Berry (Sea Buckthorn) products available, harvested in the most environmentally sensitive and socially responsible ways.
  • Our harvest to shelf production begins with the Turkestanica Sea Berry, the most nutrient dense of all sea buckthorn species, harvested exclusively in the Himalayan Highlands at 12,000 feet above sea level.
  • Our little orange berry, used for over 13 centuries, is wild-crafted, sustainably harvested and is the world’s richest source of Omega-7.
  • “Super-Critical CO2 Extraction” is used exclusively to retain the nutrients found in the berry’s seed and fruit oils. The pulping process takes place in SIBU’s own vertically integrated facilities within just a few hours of the harvest. Ensuring the promised nutrient levels in the finished product.
  • A final “triple-test” quality control system ensures that all final SIBU formulations maintain our optimum standards for Omega-7 potency and superior product quality. Three, independent premier testing laboratories are used to test for the key nutrients that make Sea Berry so valuable to health and beauty.

We believe this is the future of business. We are a company with deep values, a dedication to making great products that work, and creating a lasting positive change in our world.

It’s our T7 Promise.

Resolution: Sustainable, Healthy Living with GoMacro & Sibu Beauty

Remember those New Year’s Resolutions that you made 6 months ago? It really wasn’t that long ago, but how are you doing on things like “eating healthier”, “exercising regularly” or “taking better care of our planet”? Well, we say it’s time for a checkup on those resolutions!

July is“Pure” month at sea buckthornSibu. We looked at our own resolutions anddecided to share with you some pretty important (and “Pure”) information about us and our berries. Sibu is all about sea buckthorn. Bringing the highest quality and most nutrient dense berries to you is our mission. It isn’t easy or convenient to do what we do, but we believe 100% that it’s worth it. Taking care of our bodies – inside and out, and taking care of our planet are things that ring true in the heart of this family owned business. We are proud to offer an exclusive line of health & beauty products that will improve the way you look and the way you feel. But weare also sensitive to the constant stress on our environment due to chemicals, overflowing landfills, and irresponsible management of our forests and other valued resources. For these reasons, Sibu Beauty is proud to participate in a range of sustainability initiatives, which respect the earth and the resources it provides. From our easily recycled plastic and our partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council to our fair trade harvesting practices in Tibet, Sibu wants to make a difference for your health and for the planet.

Let’s step back for just a moment and talk about a little orange berry. This berry is “pure” and simple, the hero of our story. High in the Tibetan Himalayas (about 13,000 feet above sea level) grows a tiny but resilient fruit that resists the harsh weather conditions and high altitudes of it’s home. It is referred to by many names – sea buckthorn, sea berry, Siberian pineapple – just to name a few. This little powerhouse of a berry fortifies itself with over 190 bioactive compounds. It is an unsurpassed source of Omegas 3, 6, 9 and the elusive Omega 7, a fatty acid vital to collagen production and healthy skin, hair and nails. Used for centuries, the sea buckthorn berry is a natural product with 1300 years of traditional use and modern scientific research to back it up.

Sea Buckthorn JuiceSibu products, specifically our Omega 7 Pure, are made from a choice selection of Himalayan sea buckthorn berries, the Turkistanica variety, that are wild crafted and sustainably harvested. Rather than using cultivators, heavy equipment or axes, Sibu chooses to have the berries hand-harvested the traditional way, by the same people that have been taught by generations of ancestors. This not only maintains the beauty and tradition of the people, it helps to maintain the nutritive integrity of the berry. Harvesting takes place in the early morning hours when the berries’ nutrients are at their peak and processing takes place the very same day. The “Pure” puree of the berry is what you get in Omega 7 Pure. This beautiful orange colored puree is then sent on a “chilly” journey to the United States where it is used to create all of the Sibu product line.

This “pure” but not simple beginning is very important to us and we believe in leaving the world better than we found it. Our dedication to the Tibetan people and to the sustainability of our berry combined with the benefits that Sibu products offer you, the consumer is in large part the reason for our partnering with another company who believes in and lives by the same principles, GoMacro. The commitment shown by GoMacro to provide healthy products while supporting and caring for the Earth are things we admire and value.

We are excited to partner with GoMacro in raising awareness and increasing knowledge regarding fair trade and sustainability practices. GoMacro’s business practices include responsibly sourcing ingredients and sustainable stewardship of the Earth with Fair Trade Certification. The tray packaging for each case of GoMacro MacroBars is compostable and made from 100% post consumer waste. GoMacro treads lightly with thier carbon footprint and recently became a Carbonfree® Business Partner. Sibu Sea Buckthorn Harvest

In the pre-dawn hours, Tibetan women lay drop cloths below the branches of wild growing sea buckthorn trees in the Leh Valley found in the southern region of the Himalayas.  This early morning ritual, thousands of years old, is honored year after year during the short 4-6 week sea buckthorn berry harvest season in September anTibetan Women Harvest Sea Buckthornd October.

Sea buckthorn, the “Holy Fruit of the Himalayas”, is revered in this part of the world.  In fact, the ancient Tibetan medical text, Sibu Yi Dian, has over 30 chapters dedicated to sea buckthorn’s exceptional medicinal, and therapeutic properties.

Gathering sea buckthorn during the early morning hours ensures a berry at the peak of its nutrient capacity.  Hand harvesting is the only method that can gather the ripe berries and leave young berries on the branches until they too have had their day in the sun. Processing the berries within a few hours of picking locks in the 190+ bioactive compounds found in this resilient berry.  And, sea buckthorn from altitudes above 12,000 ft. produces the highest nutrient density for this super fruit.

When Sibu launched we wanted to make sure that we honored both the pristine Himalayan environment and learn from the community who had harvested this unique berry for millennia.  By following these harvesting practices we not only ensure a sustainable supply of sea buckthorn, we also protect the valleys where we gather and protect the quality of the harvest.

Why do we go to such great lengths?

After all, we could purchase sea buckthorn on the open market in China, or from one of the many sea buckthorn orchards growing in Asia and Europe.  We could use machine harvesting that hacks the branches of sea buckthorn shrubs, freeze and ship the branches to a distant processing facility.  Why do we not do this?

The answer is simple.  The only way to guarantee the quality and nutrient density of our sea buckthorn is to humbly follow the ancient and traditional harvesting methods of the Tibetan culture.

Sibu Beauty HarvestersOur Contribution

From the outset we wanted to give back to the community of villagers that harvested for us.  We helped the women who gather our berries organize a cooperative and raised their wages over 500%.  The short harvest season now provides a significant income that allows these women to provide for their families through the long and harsh Tibetan winters.

We’ve harvested sea buckthorn in Himalayan valleys for over 8 years now and this year we celebrate another year of  “Tashi”, Tibetan for “good health and good fortune”.  From the top of the world, we bring you Sibu Sea Buckthorn.

Buchi Kombucha and Sibu Come Together In Buchi Avonlea

We knew we were on to something after meeting Buchi Kombucha last year at a natural products expo.  We both make premium superfoods and share a like-minded ethos around sustainability, but beyond that, we also use our company platforms to promote the humanitarian efforts we’re most passionate about.  After a year of connecting on that common ground, we’re excited to announce that Sibu Beauty and Buchi Kombucha have come together through superfoods to create a delicious beverage which helps create a progressive new school: The Avonlea Learning Community.

Have you Heard of Kombucha Yet?Buchi Kombucha Tea Brewing

We’re already hooked!  It’s the fastest growing drink in the country right now, but many people still don’t know what it is.  Kombucha is a living probiotic beverage made by fermenting black tea.  A lambic style fermentation transforms organic black tea into a complex and bubbly craft-brewed beverage containing billions of beneficial probiotic cultures (15 strains), a full spectrum of energizing B vitamins, and detoxifying organic acids.

Kombucha aids digestion, emboldens the immune system, provides natural energy and makes a delicious alternative to sodas and energy drinks.  It can also be mixed in alcoholic beverages and still maintain all of its probiotic goodness.  (There will be a Sea Buckthorn Kombucha Cocktail recipe coming up in a future post!)

Founders of Buchi KombuchaWhy Buchi Kombucha?

Buchi Kombucha was started in Asheville, North Carolina five years ago by two moms at a farmers market and has grown to be one of the largest kombucha breweries in the country.

Infusing their brews with sustainably sourced medicinal herbs, berries and roots like elderberry, echinacea, holy basil and now Sibu sea buckthorn berries, Buchi is brewing next-level, raw probiotic elixirs.  One amber bottle at a time, these ethereal beverages promote health, build community and support social good.

Sea Buckthorn In KombuchaSibu Sea Buckthorn Berries in Buchi Avonlea

The energizing and detoxifying benefits of Buchi Kombucha join forces with the 190+ nutrients and Omega 7 in Sibu sea buckthorn to create this age-defying superfood elixir, Buchi Avonlea.  But there’s also an intention behind this drink: Re-imagining the status quo of education.

Buchi Avonlea is part of Buchi’s “Intentional Series,” flavors crafted to support a social cause through a nonprofit, in this case, The Avonlea Learning Community.  In our next post we’ll tell the story of Avonlea, what makes it so special and why the Sibu family supports the vision behind this school.

2012 A Record Setting Sea Buckthorn Harvest

Sibu 2012 Sea Buckthorn Berry HarvestSibu, LLC, the leader in premium sea buckthorn berry-based topical and ingestible products sold under the Sibu Beauty and soon-to-be-released Sibu Seven labels; marked this year’s harvest from their proprietary Himalayan location, as the best in the young company’s history and reported that annual yield was up over 25% from last year.

Bruce McMullin, Founder and CEO of Sibu, LLC who recently returned from the harvest location 12,000 ft. above sea level that borders Tibet, enthusiastically declared, “We are thrilled at the quality, abundance and color vibrancy of this year’s sea buckthorn crop. The deeper hues of orange/red tones that appear in the berry, the better the nutritional profile. The sea buckthorn berry has been used in Eastern Civilizations for centuries in hundreds of medicinal and whole-body applications, which are just becoming recognized and documented here at home, for the numerous health and wellness benefits. In addition to being the highest known concentration of Omega 7 found in any food source, sea buckthorn is also becoming recognized as an amazing natural resource that contains over 190 bio-actives and is a powerhouse of nutrients. Properly grown, harvested and processed, premium sea buckthorn berries contain 10 times the Vitamin C as an orange, essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9 plus an impressive amount of carotenoids, flavonoids, amino acids, and over 20 minerals.”

McMullin, who recently established the United States Sea Buckthorn Association, which is aligned with the International Seabuckthorn Association based in China, is recognized as the force greatly responsible for bringing the significance of the sea buckthorn berry to the western world and continues to encourage research and scientific testing on the berry’s positive effects on health, beauty and wellness functions.

Although sea buckthorn grows in several regions throughout the world it is the Turkistanica variety that has been clinically shown to be a better and more nutritionally complete berry. Sibu is the only company using this varietal of sea buckthorn in their consumer products. Contributing factors include the pristine air quality, rich soil as well as low oxygen levels and high solar radiation. Additionally, Sibu, which follows sustainable farming practices and employs local people through a fair trade agreement, subscribes to the centuries-old techniques used by the indigenous people of harvesting the fruit in the cool, early morning hours before the heat of the sun diminishes the nutrients. Only the ripened fruit is collected into ground cloths by striking the branches of the sea buckthorn bush and then processed within a few short hours. The pureed fruit maintains the rich orange fresh-off-the-branch color, which signifies that oxidation has not occurred; is immediately frozen to lock in the nutrients and sent to the US to manufacture and distribute the finished products under the company’s strict quality-control standards.

Sibu LLC introduced the Sibu Beauty line of topical and ingestible products in 2009 and will soon officially unveil the Sibu Seven line of supplements. All of the products contain Wild Crafted/USDA Organic Sea Buckthorn that contains no dangerous chemicals or parabens. The 100% natural products are vegan, cruelty-free and PETA-certified.

Sibu’s proprietary manufacturing process maximizes the efficacy of sea buckthorn raws, producing one of the most nutrient dense sea buckthorn products available on the market today. The Tibetan villagers who are responsible for harvesting Sibu Beauty’s sea buckthorn berries benefit from a fair trade agreement, safe and healthy working conditions and environmentally responsible practices that ensure they will enjoy the benefits of the sea buckthorn harvest for years.

Greener-ize & Nature-ize your New Years Resolution!

There’s a new trend. Bamboo fabric. Because bamboo thrives in only a little rainfall, it naturally resists moisture. When a material is composed from bamboo, it naturally resists both odor and moisture. This automatically eliminates the need for chemical treatments on fabric, which is often used on synthetic materials.

Here’s how to kill two birds with one stone and step up both your “get in shape” new year’s resolution and the other new year’s resolution you’ve made: be greener. The following products will 1) hopefully help motivate you to kick your old workout habits to the curb, and start fresh (while looking fresh at the same time).

Here’s a quick blurb from Nike about how they try to reach their “marathon goal” to maintain the leading position as a sustainable company: the company wants to “design products that are fully closed loop: produced using the fewest possible materials and designed for easy disassembly, while allowing them to be recycled into new product or safely returned to nature at the end of their life.”

How To: Host this Years Most Remembered, Eco-Friendly, Holiday Party

Martha Stewart

The Decoration:

A real tree: Whether the tree hits the ceiling, or is 4 ft tall, a real tree gives a true Christmas feel. Place the tree near a fireplace so its aroma can be carried throughout the house.

Eco-friendly Decorating Idea: Grab some candy canes at the grocery store and hang them sporadically around the tree. Then, head to the backyard (if you’re on the East Coast) and grab some healthy-looking pine cones from underneath those big ferns. Paint them Silver and Gold with an low-impact spray paint. Try EZ-Paint

Set the Spirit

Mistletoe: Mistletoe is the perfect addition to a perfect Holiday Party. Since first associated in the Greek Festival of Saturnalia to have the power to bestow life and fertility, and its later identification as the plant of peace in Scandinavia where enemies could declare a truce if positioned under mistletoe, or quarreling spouses could kiss and make-up. Despite it’s history, mistletoe sets the loving holiday spirit.

Recycling Idea: If you trashed your used ribbons last year, don’t toss them this year. Re-using ribbons can save a lot of time and money, and you’ll feel much more eco-conscientious. Who cares if they’re a little crumpled, they just get ripped off the package anyways, right?

White Candles and Crystal

A warm, bright, table setting: Lighten up the mood with white candles and crystal candle holders. The crystal won’t give the table a heavy feel, and will look more inviting by reducing unwanted clutter. Holiday table runners are perfect for setting dish-ware on without scratching the table.

Love the bees: Grab a few Beeswax candles if you want to be more eco-friendly this season.

The Drinks:
